Sobre nosotros

Mission

The Gaia Pacha Foundation’s purpose is to create and implement technical and scientific proposals that promote behavioral changes, through the creation and reconstruction of consciousness in relation to the environment, while recognizing the reality and situation of our country.

Vision

Gaia Pacha is a non-profit foundation based on the care of fragile human-nature interaction through training and commitment. Gaia Pacha develops environmental solutions, based on ethics, transparency, justice and solidarity.

How was the Foundation Created?

In 2004, the project “Salvemos al Madidi” (Let’s Save the Madidi) was born out of necessity. The National Park and Integrated Management Area Madidi (PN-ANMI), located in the north of the La Paz department was threatened. Students studying Environmental Engineering at the Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo in the Cochabamba region developed the project. Throughout the following years efforts were invested towards dissemination and appreciation of Bolivia’s natural heritage.

This first experience of joint work demonstrated the need to invest our efforts in the care and conservation of our environment. Thus, in February 2006, many of the participants in the “Salvemos al Madidi” project came together to form a new initiative, founded on the principles of integral and productive joint work, which is reflected in the name: Gaia Pacha.

This institution, now recognized as the Gaia Pacha environmental organization, gradually received public recognition, due to constant and active participation, along with other environmental institutions, in the pronouncement and discussion of environmental problems. In June 2007 a partnership agreement was signed with the Universidad of Simón I. Patiño (USIP). Universidad Simón I. Patiño, in recognition of our organization’s potential and already completed work, decided to provide us with infrastructure and logistical support to help our endeavors. By October 2007, after joint activities with ARMONIA, Gaia Pacha became an organization dedicated to the conservation of birds in Bolivia.

Finally, in 2008, Gaia Pacha obtained Prefectural Resolution, from Cochabamba department’s government, as Fundación Gaia Pacha, with the registry number 083/08.
