ROCHA RIVER
In Cochabamba, one of the main and most polluted rivers is the Rocha river that has lost its waters due to contamination, previously it was called Kunturillo, due to the abundance of crystal clear waters and on whose banks you could fish, currently only small traces of water remain totally contaminated.
The Rocha river basin is one of the most important in Cochabamba, it has an extension of approximately 81 kilometers and involves seven municipalities of the metropolitan axis, these are: Sacaba, Cercado, Colcapirhua, Quillacollo, Vinto, Tiquipaya and Sipe Sipe.
Currently, the population and industrial growth in the areas surrounding the river, as well as the increase in agricultural production, have affected the quality of water and quality of life of the population, destroying and polluting the river.
The Gaia Pacha Foundation, together with the Water Youth Network Foundation, seeks to improve the waters of the Rocha River under the project: “Biological Monitoring of the Water Quality of the Rocha River”, working in a participatory manner with the populations of Sacaba, Cercado and Colcapirhua.
The Gaia Pacha Foundation within the work axes of environmental education programs, seeks that the population both in urban and rural areas, empower themselves and adopt behaviors to improve the situation of the Rocha River.
